The groom's cake is a rich and colorful tradition that can be traced all the way back to England.  Before the days of refrigeration, it was a rich fruit cake soaked in alcohol  which acted as a preservative.

In the past, young, unmarried women would place a piece of cake under their pillow with the belief they would meet their future husband.

The groom's cake can be as fun and whimsical as you wish.   It is now usually a chocolate cake, but can be made of any flavors you desire.
